This novel by Harriet Beecher Stowe showed many of the dark side of slavery, and ignited the abolitionist movement in the north, while causing northern hatred in the south. In effect, it further polarized the North and South. It also reached international audiencces, such as breat Britain, and increased favor for the north and Abolitonism. The plot consists of a family of slaves whose lives are conitnually ravaged by abuse because of slavery. The book ends with the father being brutally murdered by a white perosn.
